I'm Annie McLain, a Maine-based artist who works in a shared studio space with my husband, photographer David McLain, in our 200 year old barn. I've always loved being creative. I grew up in Fredonia, New York watching my mom and older sister create beautiful watercolor paintings. I took painting classes in high school and college, and later at the Maine College of Art and Design. I continue to take private lessons and workshops with local artists.

My Maine inspirations are both new and old. I aspire to the tenacity of Lois Dodd, the "unfinished fun" of Fairfield Porter, and the bold colors of Alex Katz. But my biggest inspirations are right under my roof: the intimate photographs from around the world taken by my husband, the post & beam barns built by my son, Finn, and the intricate pen and ink drawings created by my daughter, Myla. I'm a work in progress...ever evolving and discovering new ways to interpret this place I feel lucky to call home.
